September 17, 2014, 06:00

The Roza Otunbayeva Initiative sponsored exposition “Germans of Kyrgyzstan’s History” will open at State Historical Museum of the Kyrgyz Republic on 3 October 2014.

Kyrgyzstan is an ethnically diverse nation that is seeking to establish strong cultural ties between ethnicities based upon acceptance, respect and tolerance.

The purpose of the exhibition is to present the history of Germans in Kyrgyzstan, including their economic and cultural contributions to the nation. It will also highlight the path towards further integration and cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Germany.

Since independence, a constructive relationship between the German Federal Republic and Kyrgyzstan focused on three areas: Economics, society and culture.

Greater awareness about the history of relations between Germany and Kyrgyzstan will contribute to enhanced cooperation between Germans and the peoples of Kyrgyzstan, both internationally and locally.

The artistic theme of the exposition is “finding a new homeland” since Kyrgyzstan became the true home of many German settlers.

The exposition will deal with two overarching themes:

1. General historical processes that contextualize German life in Kyrgyzstan throughout the second half of the 19th and the 20th centuries.

2. The invaluable contributions of Germans to the history and welfare of Kyrgyzstan.

In addition, preparations for this exhibit prompted historians to engage in new research, the results of which will be presented to audiences and discussed at the opening round table.

The exposition will be interesting to both representatives of the scientific community and the general public. There will also be interactive exhibits for children, where they can become acquainted with the exposition and German culture as with the help of experienced museum educators.

All materials from the exposition will be presented in an exposition catalog.

Partners in the preparation and organization of the exposition are "The People's Council of Germans of Kyrgyzstan", the German Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic, the Goethe Institute, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and "Interglass."
