Press Release «Dialogues on Parliamentarism»

The Roza Otunbayeva Initiative and the British Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic will hold a roundtable devoted to the development of parliamentarism in Kyrgyzstan as part of the "Dialogues on Parliamentarism" project.


Members of the British Parliament, members of Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, the City Parliament, representatives of non-governmental organizations, independent experts, and the media will participate.


Roundtable discussion will follow the following themes: “Monitoring and Evaluation of Government Activities," “The Parliamentary Majority: The Rights and Responsibilities of a Coalition," and "The Proportional Electoral System: Diverse Interests and Values.”


John Mann, Member of the House of Commons of the British Parliament, and Andrew Rosindell, Speaker of the Opposition in the House of Commons will talk about the experience of the British Parliament in monitoring and evaluating government activities, the rights and responsibilities of the majority coalition, and the proportional electoral system.

John Mann has represented Bassetlaw as a Labour Party member in the British Parliament since 2001. In 2003, Mr. Mann led the successful campaign to uphold the emergency medical services in Bassetlaw hospitals, the result of which was the continued operation of those services, and in 2006 he won a campaign to defend local primary care funding from being drained into a national pool. Mr. Mann continues use his position to address healthcare issues on behalf of the people of Bassetlaw.


Andrew Rosindell has represented Romford County as a Conservative Party member in the British Parliament since 2001. After reelection in 2010, Mr. Rosindell was elected to serve on the Committee on Foreign Affairs, which has monitored the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth Office, including the diplomatic service, as well as a wide range of international issues.


Mr. Rosindell was recently appointed as a member of the board of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, which assists emerging democracies in strengthening institutions and finding their way to a free and fair democracy.


The “Dialogues on Parliamentarism” Roundtable will be held on September 23 from 1:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the conference hall of the Park Hotel.
